Hello everyone! We want to thank everyone who supported SMYLE during the Christmas season and made our first send off of supplies and goodies a complete success! We wanted to update everyone and let you know that we will once again be starting to collect donations. Check back soon for more updates about the troops we will be sending packages to, what they are in need of and some comments back from the soldiers who received our first boxes!
First boxes…SENT!
We’ve done it! The very first boxes from SMYLE have been sent out this morning and will be making their great journey overseas and into the hands of many men and women in need. It will be a nice little surprise after Christmas when they receive them. I’ve asked that they write back if they can so we know that they made it there safely. (In the photo these are just a few of the boxes, the rest were already processed…!)
We would like to thank everyone for their support in this cause. We will be taking a break for the holidays but would like to remind everyone that after the holidays is a great time to grab some items at a hugely discounted price to send in our next boxes. Troops are asking for after Christmas items such as LED lights to spruce up their barracks. Also blankets, hats and gloves are needed as the weather is rapidly changing. Just a thought if you happen to see anything after Christmas on sale!!
We wish everyone happy holidays and the best in the New Year! Keep checking back as we will post anything we receive from the troops and also information on our next donation drive! …Let it snow!!
We’ve reached the halfway point!
In the last couple of days, SMYLE was fortunate to receive some great donated items. Anything from hair ties, trail mix, breath mints, puzzle books, body wash, snacks and foot powered! The list goes on! Thank you to those who donated! Read more
Send a Thank You
I am receiving many letters and cards to send but here is a neat website for those of you not near enough to drop off a letter. It is called Let’s Say Thanks. Here you are able, through Xerox, to send a thank you postcard for free to our troops. You first select an image you would like on the front of the post card (all of them were designed by children across the country) and then you can either select a message or write your own personal message. The postcards are then printed by Xerox and sent overseas! So, if you aren’t in the area or don’t have time to run to the postoffice, please consider writing a postcard through Let’s Say Thanks.
Goal for December 20th
As we are well on our way with donations we would like to set a goal to reach by December 20th. By then, SMYLE would like to have received $1,000 in donations of items and money together. We are roughly estimating how much items are worth but if you drop them off and you know what the total is, let us know! We are very close to reaching the halfway point of making this goal already. There is a progress tracker on the right side of the website that you can view to see how close we are to the goal. Read more
Day Two
We would like to personally thank everyone who made donations yesterday and this morning. With those donations, SMYLE will have enough money to purchase supplies for another whole unit in need. Also, thank you to Villa Maria’s 5th grade class, Wilkins Elementary’s 4th grade class and everyone else who wrote cards and letters to the soldiers. We could still use more so keep writing! There are never too many letters to be read.
For anyone looking to personally purchase items, we are mostly in need of shampoo, body wash and deodorant along with any fun, silly games or toys they can play while they have down time. There are many troops in need so please keep giving what you can!
Welcome!
Hello everyone and welcome to SMYLE!
SMYLE–Sending Military Your Lasting Encouragement–is an organization dedicated to sending military troops in need of basic essentials items they ask for. Many troops do not have a PX (military store) on base. If they do, the items go quickly when they are able to be restocked. The items that troops are asking for can be easily bought and shipped to them. Think of how much better they will feel after working long hours to go back to base and take a shower with shampoo, conditioner and even body wash—things we may take for granted. These are just a few of the items that our troops are in need of and we at SMYLE need your help!!
We have officially began accepting donations. Before launching the website, we have already reached $250 to be used to send the first packages to the troops. On top of this, we have collected many letters and cards to send overseas. We’ve made it very easy to donate—just click the “Donate Now” button in the sidebar which will link you to Paypal to give whatever you are able. Let’s keep this going and bring some ‘SMYLEs’ to the troops faces!!
